Academically speaking, life looks like it's going to be a lot better.
This semester i'm taking three modules, Jonson to Johnson, Writing the Renaissance and Victorian Lit. J to J and WtR both fit superbly well together and i'll be looking at some of the same texts from different angles. Thats good because you can never get enough Ben Jonson. There are other reasons why i'm excited; Writing The Renaissance is a research project, essentially a link to the dissertation, and i'm looking forward to creating a portfollio of original material from the Renaissance based on the theme of Faith. In Jonson to Johnson I have a fantastic lecturer, Prof Tom Corns, who happens to be one of the worlds leading scholars on John Milton which will certainly be very handy when we study Milton. Theres only eleven on the course so it will be fantastic to work with such a learned (and nice) man in reasonably close quarters. I'm not too fussed about Vic Lit, its not really an area that I want to step into next year but I felt the need to have some more width this semester which is why I chose it. Today we looked at Matthew Arnold, a very gifted natural poet that I haven't come across (other than in name) we studied his poems 'Dover Beach' and 'The Buried Life' and I enjoyed both. So yeah, thats a little overview of what i'll be studying, lets hope the excitement doesn't wear off too fast.
Listening to now: Oxford Town- Bob Dylan
